What are the Different Types of Felonies?
Felony crimes are divided into three categories: first-degree felonies, second-degree felonies, and third-degree felonies.
First-degree felonies are the most serious crimes and carry the most severe penalties. These crimes are usually violent crimes, such as murder, rape, and aggravated assault, or property crimes, such as burglary, arson, and larceny.
Second-degree felonies are also punishable by imprisonment in state prison but for a shorter period of time. These crimes are also usually violent or property, but they are less severe than first-degree felonies.
Third-degree felonies are punishable by up to five years in a state penitentiary and are usually drug crimes, such as possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute or crimes involving forgery or fraud
